Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am requesting materials to build a guidance center at an elementary school in Las Vegas. I became the counselor at this school on 4/6/15. I have very few materials and no budget. Please assist with my goal of implementing a comprehensive guidance program for students and families.

My elementary school consists of mostly low-income families.

Students need resources that assist with the following issues: parent death, parent incarceration, drug prevention and conflict resolution. The students currently have a high demand for general school supplies.

My Project

Elementary students learn to cope with assistance from a quality counselor. Through use of manipulatives (i.e playdough, stress balls), games and activities, I will help students acquire life-long coping skills as well as career readiness. The general school supplies will be given to our students who do not have the daily materials to be successful. I will be teaching classroom lessons, facilitating small groups and conducting individual counseling. In addition, I will have a parent resource area. Students will learn to handle tough life issues like: conflict, divorce, parent death, parent incarceration, drug use. Other lessons/discussions will help students develop career readiness skills and appropriate social skills.

My goal is to have a GUIDANCE CENTER model implemented by the beginning of next school year.

Your assistance with the following materials will help greatly in this endeavor. Students will learn how to rise above problems, live in the solution and understand the importance of an education. On behalf of my students, thank you for your support.
