Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The third graders in my classroom should not have to worry about having the supplies they need. Unfortunately, they do worry, and so do their parents. My hopes are, with your help, we can ease some of the burden and help them start the year off right!

I have the pleasure of teaching an amazing group of third grade students in the great state of Oregon.

These students show up to school each day, with smiles on their faces and excitement bursting out of each one, and all of them ready to learn. Our school is in a high-poverty area and includes many students who would be considered at-risk. Despite these barriers, my students crave learning and look forward to coming to school each day where they know they are safe and loved.

My Project

With these writing supplies, my students will be able to do a variety of daily tasks. We use highlighters almost every day when reading and dissecting articles, stories, and a variety of text. The students are required to show that they can identify evidence within text. We can also use the highlighters to notice spelling patterns, new vocabulary, and more! Dry erase markers are like gold in our classroom. We use individual white boards for math every day. Using these tools allows us to show our math processes quickly. Also, students are able collaborate and use the boards/markers to map out their math reasoning. Also requested in this project is red correcting pens. We use these every day, as well. When we review homework and daily sentence dictation, students are excited to use the pens to show their corrections. They are also an important tool when students are learning to edit and revise their own writing.

Providing these supplies for my students will help ease the stress of beginning the school year.

It will help their families who are struggling just to purchase the basic paper/pencils/crayons that are required. Your generosity will make an impact this year, but also beyond since these supplies will last us for quite a while! Thanks for your help!
