My Students

Nothing is more frustrating as a teacher than having technology you can't use due to inadequate computer speed. My students need a new netbook to run our interactive whiteboard.

Our school is located in an impoverished urban area of Indiana.

The school is over 90% free/reduced lunch and the student body is diverse. Our school has a nearly 100 year history in this community and the community needs us to prepare our students for the 21st century. Unfortunately we often have to do this on outdated technology. They need a boost and I try to provide that boost in my classroom through mostly donated technology. With your help I can continue to provide a 21st century education to my students.

My Project

In our classroom we currently have an interactive whiteboard. It has served us faithfully for the past 5 years. The board is still great, however, the machine running it was a refurbished unit donated to the classroom and can no longer handle the work load. My students use the interactive whiteboard for presentations, note taking & to make history come alive is ways they have never imagined. We often take “field-trips” through Google Earth, marking sites on the whiteboard with their finger tips helps them remember the trip in a deeper way. Presentations come to life when you combine a program like prezi.com with an interactive whiteboard. The students are so excited to see their work fly into play with the touch of a finger. Engagement is high when the technology can handle their excitement. Please help my students stay engaged and excited about learning about their past and the importance of our democratic society.

My students need a chance to experience education at 21st century speeds.

They are a generation that needs the high speeds of new technology to continue their upward climb of education.
