Show Me What You're Working With!

My students need a document camera to help them examine, revise, and learn from their errors and successes in a collaborative way.

My Students

It's no secret that some of the most effective methods for learning are teaching others and correcting your own work. My students have a great sense of community; learning Spanish requires teamwork and they have it! A document camera would facilitate and enhance their collaborative efforts!

I teach a vibrant, curious, and brilliant group of students in the inner city in California.

Our school is a small, alternative high school with a focus on the arts; we offer a college preparatory program in a supportive and intimate environment. Because we're a smaller, public, alternative school, our resources are even more limited than is typical. However, what we lack in resources, we try to make up for in sense of community. I've never witnessed students be so accepting and supportive of each other. Through struggles that no children should face, our students remain optimistic and committed to bettering their lives through education.

My Project

A document camera would help my students learn from each other and from their errors and successes in a dynamic and engaging way. It would be greatly beneficial for them to share their work with each other, correct their own or each others' work, celebrate exemplary work, and visually see their improvements over time. A document camera makes all of these things immediately possible. We could review common mistakes as a class using real examples; we could model how to put together word- or sentence-puzzles in a way that all students could clearly observe; we could create stories or do other activities as a class without worrying about running out of transparencies or markers. I already have an LCD projector (necessary to use this specific document camera), but having the additional visual presentation device would be great! A document camera would be a huge boon to the daily revisions and student-teaching that are necessary to student retention and internalization of our material

Supporting this project promotes student ownership of work by helping students see, analyze, and revise their work.

This project is also a tool for students to become peer-teachers, which is one of the most effective ways for them to learn. Finally, students benefit from using modern technologies in a practical context. Please support this project and help my students learn!
