Science Sleuths Need Technology in Order to Excel!

My students need a printer/copier/scanner with extra ink!! My students need a document projector. My students need a class projector.

My Students

With no computer at home to help with their schoolwork and no printer to help with presentations, my students get sheepish about displaying their work in our hallways. For these children, the classroom offers their only access to this sort of technology. Our classroom has one desktop computer and no working printer.

Student work lacks the neat print from a printer, and the easy-to-interpret clean lines on their graphs.

Our biggest challenge can be pride in our work. With these materials, my students’ pride would swell, and their work would inherently improve. Standards of work would be raised for all of the students. Most, but not all, of our students have families severely affected by the current economy. These are students who have no computer at home to help with their school work and no printer to help with presentations. For these children, the classroom offers their only access to this sort of technology. Our classroom has one desktop computer, and no working printer.

My Project

Having the projector will allow for greater understanding, as I would be able to support and supplement our lessons with videos and information from the Internet for whole-class review. I could model how to initiate internet research and design graphs. The document camera would give us the opportunity for students to share their work for class presentations. It would allow me the ability to showcase quality notebook work with the class and model highlighting and marginal note-taking techniques. Having access to a printer would allow all of my students to see their work in print, and add graphs and pictures to their classwork and projects. Their work and presentations will shine!

I believe that these materials will improve the learning in my classroom.

The projector will assist my students with increased understanding of our lessons and materials. The document camera will allow us to showcase quality classwork. The printer will help us with presenting work in a high-quality fashion. These tools will help to boost students' self-esteem and assist with motivation. How, you ask? When your hard work is presented in a professional manner, it can only lead to pride.
