Resource Room Materials for Success!

My students need resources to consult in their Resource Room that will expand their thinking and brighten up their classroom.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are bright, creative, and eager young people who are always looking for things to do and explore. Help fill our empty resource room and give them the opportunity to have a library of their own in which they can read independently and consult reference books for success in their classes!

My students are creative, funny, and intelligent children with special needs that use resource room to complete homework and work on study skills.

Resource room is a small and special environment that includes myself and eight students at a time. I work closely with them to work on study skills, their classwork, and social skills. I share my classroom with three other resource room teachers whose students will also benefit from having a classroom library. My students attend a high-needs school in NYC and as of now have little access to resources in our Resource classroom that could make their time there more valuable and the classroom environment more engaging and comfortable.

My Project

I have decided to surprise my students by starting to work toward filling our empty classroom bookshelves with a classroom library. Each day, they consult me for materials or information that I sometimes cannot give to them without the proper resources. With a classroom library, students will have novels to read when they have finished their classwork and having novels and biographies around will encourage them to enjoy the act of independent reading. I will also include resource texts like PSAT prep for my college bound students and encyclopedias for reference - materials that will both help with their progress in school.

My students need to experience independent learning and should be given the opportunity to consult the books and resources of their choice that would be available to them in a classroom library.

They are insatiably curious, intelligent, and enthusiastic and they should be given the opportunity to make the most of their time in Resource Room by being provided with as many extra references, novels, and resources as possible!
