My Students

When we were children, learning was through books and imagination. The modern world has influenced a child's learning and has driven curriculum. Students love technology and are excited when using it as a learning tool.

My students are a group of 5th graders who love learning but not have the same access as other children have.

92% of my students are in poverty and most do not have computers/Internet at home. They will stay in at recess to use the computer lab or my one computer at my desk. They love researching and reading stories on-line and discussing different sites that are educational and fun. My students all are at different reading levels and a Kindle will help students listen to stories while they work on reading fluency. During our literacy block, many students will access it and it will take their reading to a different level depending on their needs. It might be an enrichment book or a lower level book. All students will be using it and it will be books that will be differentiated for their unique needs.

My Project

We have a 90 minute literacy block in my classroom. We don't have access to Kindles, nooks or laptops like other classrooms might have. Yet, my students love to read and love to find books that they are interested in. We have a variety of reading and I love interactive book stations with book discussions. Some students aren't at the level to be in a chapter book and the kindle can be used at their level without it looking any different from their peers. This kindle will be used daily with many students.

Since I work at a Title school with 92% students in poverty, our classroom doesn't have the same technology as other classrooms might have.

This will be a learning tool that will help students LOVE reading and listening to books as well as give the students the opportunity to find their own books of interest and level.
