This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever tried to cool yourself without an air conditioner on a hot day? Can students stay focused and learn new information when they are feeling extreme heat? It starting to get hot in New York City, and we are beginning to feel the heat in our classroom. We need an air conditioner!

We are one of the high needs schools.

Most of my students are exposed to or experience the various symptoms of poverty: poor or unstable housing, violence, crime, poor health and nutrition. For many of my students our classroom is the safest environment where they feel secure, respected and can learn. y students are special needs students. Some of the disabilities are PPD, ADHD and learning disabilities. They are very hard workers and made a lot of progress this year.

My Project

We really need your help. My students have difficulty staying on task due to their disabilities, and they need repetition to learn certain concepts. It is becoming increasingly difficult for them to learn in a hot room. They are feeling frustrated and they kept asking me for an air conditioner. They also get irritated because of the temperature of the classroom. In addition, many of my students take medications; they get tired more easily and feel sleepy in the hot room. We can only use a portable air conditioner because our school is old and the electricity wires would need to be reconstructed for window air conditioners.
