People do not quit playing because they grow old; they grow old because they quit playing. The role of play, in child development, is crucial, yet the time kids are given to play diminishes at a rapid rate, when they enter school. Help me create an appropriate environment for our students!
Welcome to Pre-K!
Come on in! We ask that you be respectful to those around you, as well as the materials you play with.
Language isn't an issue here. We're confident you'll pick it up quickly. We learn through play and exploration, so you're required to bring your curiosity and imagination. Have fun! Our kids are young, ambitious, and curious, but there's darkness lurking about, that's much too serious. Pre-K is a time to explore and play, to imagine and create until the end of the day. But, the trouble that's looming, seems to be blooming. Academic rigor! Academic rigor! They're telling us to grow up much, much quicker. They want to prepare us to be college ready. We want to go to college, but at a pace that's steady. Our parents can't help us out of the trouble that's lurking. It's not their fault! They're too busy working! It's up to you to help us keep our childhood, which we're about to lose, you wonderful people of DonorsChoose!
My Project
What you may see as children playing with blocks on a rug, is actually much more than that. They're architects working either together, or independently on an idea from their imagination. What you may see as a teacher requesting toys is actually much more than that. The teacher is serving as a material supplier, supplying tools and bricks for the architects working on an idea from their imagination. What you may see as a random stacking of blocks, is actually much more than that. The random stack represents a civilization built by the architect, who received their materials from a supplier to work on an idea from their imagination.
Play is very important for child development. These educational toys, blocks, and manipulatives will be apart of a mobile play center cart dedicated to bringing play to kids in classrooms that do not have much to play with. Each child in our school will have the opportunity to engage in play when the cart comes to their class.
All the great minds in our civilization started somewhere.
Teachers do not foresee who their students will eventually grow up to become. I want to be the one who fostered and nurtured the imagination of my students, in a school that's set up to welcome any and all ideas. That idea may start off as one block, but it is destined to become much more. Your help will support the building blocks of great ideas for our future. It will bring play back to students, who absolutely need play in their lives.
