Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I hold my students to a very high standard. I have high expectations for them and push them to their academic limits. I incorporate real world experiences into my classes daily lessons and discussions to better prepare my students for their future and to help make my class more relevant.
My students are great!
I typically teach high school freshmen and many of them have very little experience with data collection and the use of laboratory equipment.
Hence, my request for support. My school's student body is made up a very diverse population, but students get along well together and have a high degree of school spirit and pride.
My Project
Students will use the electronic balance in my classroom to track the growth/weight of various classroom pets as a mode of learning how to collect, prepare, and analyze data. The majority of my students have very little experience with these critical science skills. The electronic balance is the tool I need to make this opportunity available to my students. Students will utilize the data they collect to learn how to develop various types of graphs and other data analysis representations.
Donations to this project will allow my students the opportunity to collect their own data that is relevant to my classroom and the various learning experiences that I provide to them.
Collecting unique data rather than using data collected by others or provided in a book makes the learning experience more authentic. It also teaches students how to actually collect data.
