My students represent a diverse community. They are all bright and interested students and they enjoy hands-on experiences. This project will allow me to show them how plants grow. Many have little experience with growing plants and vegetables. There are several extensions to this project that I have planned. Students will learn about organic farming, GMOs, the importance of eating fruits and vegetables, the importance of growing native plants for beneficial insects that act as pollinators for our food crops, healthy eating choices, etc. Students will also be able to take the plants that we grow in the classroom home so that they can start their own vegetable gardens. My hope is that it will instill a desire to grow their own organic fruits and vegetables for years to come. Not only will this improve their own health and well being, but also that of their future children/families. Thank you in advance for your support.
