Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help inspire young adolescents who face much adversity by providing our classroom with non-fiction novels filled with tales of lessons learned and how individuals overcame obstacles in order to achieve dreams and survive in a life filled with difficulty.
Our learning community is located in a diverse, high poverty, urban city in Illinois.
A high percentage of the students are bilingual, with English being their second language. All students are increasing their English language acquisition skills as well as improving their reading skills at a rapid rate. Our middle school is working diligently in order to meet the state's academic expectations. Our public middle school students' love to read non-fiction text with experiences they can relate too.
My Project
These novels will be utilized in guided reading groups and available to over 350 students each year. The novels chosen will double our non-fiction inventory in our literature closet. Our students will learn how to overcome adversity and deal with the emotions during this accomplishment roller coaster.
Our students will be ecstatic to have new books in our classrooms.
Many struggle to read and find books that are interesting to them. These novels cover topics that they have expressed are of interest to them. Providing these novels will provide the motivation needed for my students. Motivated students will allow them to learn the academic skills necessary as well as find their first favorite book. Reading can change lives, please help change the lives of my students!
