This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The small things become the big challenges to students. My students understand the frustration of losing valuable class time trying to sharpen their pencils using an old mechanical pencil sharpener.
My third graders love to write!
It is just difficult to write when we do not have a good pencil sharpener. I teach in a low poverty area. It is difficult for some children to bring pencils to school, but then they have another challenge when they have to spend so much time trying to sharpen their pencils.
My Project
My students have one mechanical pencil sharpener to use to sharpen pencils. The pencil sharpener I have in my room is 3 years old, and it is not working as well as it used to. Most of the time it takes a while to sharpen pencils, and then the students are left with a small pencil. If I can provide my students with a nice electric pencil sharpener, they can quickly sharpen their pencils and have a regular sized pencil to use. I also included pencils in my order because there is nothing worse than a child not being able to complete his or her assignments because he or she does not have a pencil.
I know this is a small project, but it will make the biggest difference in my students' learning.
Since I want a durable electric pencil sharpener, students in future classes will also be able to enjoy the pencil sharpener. Thank you for considering my project.
