My Students

Keeping accurate and useful production records is a challenge faced by any business, particularly those in the field of agriculture. Every student in our Agricultural Education program operates a Supervised Agricultural Experience. These students require supervision on site from a teacher.

We are a rural community located in Colorado.

The area is rapidly growing from its rural roots to a busy growing city. Our high school, and the Agricultural Education Program are rapidly growing. The program has grown from 33 students to nearly 140 in a year. Many students are involved in production agriculture, or come from an agricultural background. However, many of the incoming students are from a non-traditional agricultural background. The use of technology in agriculture has become a big draw for the program.

My Project

The Agricultural Education Department is requesting two Samsung tablets. These will completely revolutionize how we supervise our students Supervised Agricultural Experiences. With these tablets we will be able to pull up online records developed in the program Agricultural Experience Tracker related to their Supervise Agricultural Experiences and discuss them while visiting the students at their placement sites. We can have in depth discussions on how records directly effect the agricultural business they are operating. Students can see the correlation between their business records and the business they are running, while we are physically on site with the students. This removes the disconnect between good, accurate records, and a profitable business. Furthermore, we can discuss and develop goals for their Supervised Agricultural Experiences based on their business and their records while on site.

These tablets will effect the lives of over 140 students in the 2012-2013 school year.

Every student is visited at least twice over the summer. This is 280 chances to impact student business and goals every year. Our impact and guidance as instructors can direct these students toward a profitable career in the future. Furthermore, being able to view their production records will help us make informed decisions and suggestions. This will increase our efficiency greatly.
