From printing in color, having student created bulletin boards, headphones for the upcoming texting season, and SO MANY PENCILS! My students and myself want to thank Governor Polis for making this happen. \r\n\r\nOften times, rural communities are forgotten when you have so many inter city students living in poverty. However, rural communities are not as exposed to possible careers and experiences. They are used to rustic, but deserve so much more. \r\n\r\nThe color printer was the most impactful resource in our classroom. In high school, we focus on post secondary goals. With students with special needs, this needs to be a more robust experience. My students were able to use career aptitude surveys and choose careers, research, and create an amazing vision board. This bulletin board has color printed pictures of their career goals. It serves as a visual reminder to help them make their goals come to fruition. \r\n\r\nMy students often need constant reminders of times, lunch, rules, and any other important information. They loved that they had a go to place to get all their need to know info; let's face it, kids these days don't listen to the announcements! \r\n\r\nThe 500 pencils surprised me the most. Seeing that many pencils was quite an experience for all of us. The students instantly started challenging each other with who could build the tallest tower. One student managed to use all 500! After that, I always had a bin full of pencils and carried around a handful in my backpack as I pushed into classes. It was perfect! If a kid said they didn't have a pencil, I always had one to give them so they could do their work. Eventually, word got out and a kid would ask me in the hallway before going into a class where they couldn't get an extra from the teacher. \r\n\r\nAs testing season approaches, I am so happy that students will be able to get their testing accommodations with working headphones! \r\n\r\nThis project really gave my kids a spark. They felt seen. They felt like they had what they needed so they could finally take risks and explore in an amazing environment that they created!","fullyFundedDate":1727462978391,"projectUrl":"project/colorful-coloradans-need-a-printer-and-p/8577528/","projectTitle":"Colorful Coloradans Need a Printer and Pencils","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. O","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9633402"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_42772","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":421,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":59,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":67,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":27,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":54.4,"schoolId":42772,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Sterling High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Sterling High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/valley-school-district-re-1/sterling-high-school/42772"}
