My Students

Do you remember filling out math worksheets, only to find out you had done the whole page wrong? Was there ever a time that you needed help with a tricky concept, and nobody could help you? Wasn't it awful?

I teach at an inner-city Boston Public School, where most of my 7th graders live in single-parent, limited income households.

Many are children of hard-working immigrants who aren't able to help their children with English and math skills due to long working hours or a lack of education or language skills themselves. Despite these challenges, my students come to school and work hard each day! Giving them this program to access at home and at school will improve their math confidence and boost test scores!

My Project

IXL is an online math program that aligns with the new Common Core standards. It keeps track of each child's strengths and weaknesses and allows me as a teacher to print out graphs that show daily, weekly, and monthly reports and goals. Most importantly it is engaging! The kids love the programs and they can be done at their level. The struggling kids get re-enforcement and the gifted students get challenged! It is the only program I've seen that is great for ALL of my students. There was not a math or grammar topic that wasn't covered.

Obtaining individual access to IXL will help my students push towards their math and ELA goals in an engaging, effective manner.

Though I can't be everywhere at once, IXL gives the immediate feedback and coaching that they need to work independently and continue to learn.
