My Students

After eleven years in kindergarten, I am moving to a new classroom and to a new grade level - first grade. Collecting materials and displaying my students' work in their new space with its bare walls is a challenge!

Our school is a pre-k to second grade building in rural Maine.

I teach in an impoverished school; many of the children and families are struggling to make ends meet. For many of my students, "school" is the best part of their life. Although their life may be tough outside of school, it is my job to make their days in school fun and filled with rich activities that ignite their early learning.

My Project

Children everywhere need to understand that there is value in their work. I am asking for two bulletin boards on which my students' class products can be displayed: artwork, writing samples, and scientific experiment products. When children see their work on display, they become proud of what they have done and their self esteem rises. For the children in my school, it is particularly salient that they build a sense of self worth and pride.

A bulletin board at school is like the refrigerator at home - it is the place where our classroom family shows what we value.

It is the place where we show what we have learned, what is important to us, and who we are becoming. Thank you for your support of this project and the many worthwhile projects posted here at Donorschoose.org.
