My students need physical education materials such as various types of balls, 26 game vests, a ball pump, and a megaphone so ALL students can hear directions clearly.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember how anxiously you waited all day for P.E. or recess time? Many of my little gentleman are very athletic, and the little ladies are proving that sports is not just a boy thing! Sports is a great outlet for my students and a great way to keep them healthy while learning!
My students are VERY active.
There is not just one type of learner! I have students who learn best with visuals, those who learn best through music, and those who learn best when all parts of the brain and body is active. One thing that unites all my different types of learners is that they learn by DOING! Our school supports physical education and we are encouraged to teach our students sports to allow them to learn new things and to help keep them healthy and moving. While we are provided with some P.E. resources, it is VERY limited! Some kits are incomplete and many of the items are old and balls are deflated.
My students are in upper grade, but for most them games such as four-square or wall ball is new to them! They've never played it because they never learned it or had the opportunity to! Now, they resort to sports online or through phone apps! I'd like my students to get off the PlayStation, and go play outside instead!
My Project
"Mrs. Mickelsen, what is that wall in the middle of the field?" a student asked. "That is the wall ball area." I replied. "Wall ball?? What's that?!!" the student curiously asks as if it is a game from an ancient era.
It was shocking to hear that the games that fill my childhood memories, are considered pre-historic or unknown to my students! I'd like to broaden their horizons and show them that playing does not just mean on a device, but actually moving your body to keep it healthy! My learners are required to take a fitness test, however we do not have the materials they need.
The balls I'm requesting will allow me to train my students to play all kinds of different sports, and the pump will ensure they don't stay deflated for too long. The vests will promote team work and students can see who is on which team- lessening the amount of confusion on the field, the megapone will let my students hear me even when outside with many other classes.
The donations on this project will help my students to get out and move!
It will encourage them to put down the game controllers, press the off button, head to the door leading outside, and move their bodies to keep healthy! The materials will allow them to play sports and games they do not currently know how to play correctly! The best part is, the students will enjoy learning even more! They will no longer see P.E. or recess time as boring, but as the learning opportunity it really is!
