My students are part of a combo class, which we refer to as a multiage class of 4th and 5th graders. 95% of the students are higher academically than the peers in the same grade level. These students need to be challenged and use their intelligence for greater things, however our school doesn't have the funds for simple materials. One thing the students are without is a classroom library. Our current books are limited and lower than their reading level. I've collected our current books over time from different garage sales, but are mainly for primary students. These students are 4th or 5th grade but think at a 6th grade level. My greatest challenge is to keep them challenged! Through reading, we are digging deeper into an author's words, style, message, structures, etc. and need more texts that can support us in continuing this goal. The students are passionate and LOVE school- I'd like to keep this with them always. They are an amazing group of future scholars who deserve a library!
