My Students

It's a 21st century world and we are still teaching with 20th century software and equipment. We have recently acquired a class set of video cameras and now we are looking forward to having students create videos in a library station designed for this purpose.

These high school students are clever and creative, but most lack the technology and skill to produce a video.

Setting up a video editing station in our media center will allow all of our students to have access to technology and programs that aren't available to most of them. We have recently obtained funds to purchase videos and have access to a couple of computers that can be used for this purpose. By adding a few additional features, we can step up our capabilities.

My Project

My students need a Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Suite, DVDs, headphones and three mobile wireless mouse sets for our video production area. Using equipment already in place. we plan to set up so that we can begin the new year with 21st century tools for learning. Some students are much more tech savvy than others-- and most of them have tech skills that exceed the average classroom teacher. By enhancing our resources in the media center, interested students can work to develop their skills and share with others. Ideally our more skilled students would be great mentors for the lesser skilled. Once the opportunity is there, students will be able to create videos to showcase programs within the school and make public service announcements through our broadcasting system. When students are involved, any cause can become more personal to the viewers.

Resources are extremely limited but we are adding as much as we can, as soon as we can.

This year, a team of students wrote, directed, and produced a poignant and moving "Prom Safety" video with personal equipment. When it was aired throughout the school, the impact was incredible. By having access to needed equipment and software, students can produce public service announcements on suicide prevention, anti-bullying, anti-gang, and more. The impact on student learning is limitless! Students both teach and learn with these supplies, now and for years to come.
