My students need new sturdy bikes, scooters, balls and other equipment for our shared kindergarten playground to improve our learning inside and outside the classroom.
Ask almost any kindergartener their favorite part of the school day and they will say, "Recess!" Kindergarteners need intentional periods of movement in order to stay healthy, pay better attention in the classroom, and perform better academically.
Our kindergarteners are an awesome group of 112 delightful, loving and excited little sponges who are ready to soak up every part of their day.
But our children find ways to play on the playground that may not be safe. Our school is in an affluent area that serves approximately 700 students in a suburban public elementary school. We want to provide ALL our kindergarteners with new playground equipment that will engage them in appropriate social learning and sharing. They love riding bikes, climbing, balancing and playing with balls and these kindergarteners deserve the proper materials to learn and grow on the playground. However, the kindergarten yard is often over looked when it comes to funding.
My Project
Our kindergarteners will LOVE all their new playground equipment! We hope to provide them with safe new bikes, scooters and balls to foster their gross motor movement. This in turn will benefit their body, mind and mood. Physical exercise gets our blood flowing which in turn brings oxygen to the brain. Experts say this helps children pay attention in class, get better grades, stay healthy, sleep better, and calm down, when needed... a slam dunk! We hope to provide our kindergarteners with Giant Alphabet Stepping Stones which will provide them opportunities to practice their balancing skills along with letter recognition, letter sound practice and heighten their spelling skills. Swing and Catch Cups will be a lot of fun and help them practice their eye/hand coordination. We also hope to provide them with Keep it Safe - Traffic Signs to foster their sense of order. Lastly, we need Equipment Carts to house all this exciting equipment.
In the era of too much screen time, we want to foster educating the whole kindergartener, all 112 of them.
The more they move their body the better they can learn! The better they learn, the more successful they are in their school career and it all begins in kindergarten! Having a successful kindergarten experience helps children learn how to learn, how to focus and affects early behavior and social development. This begins with movement. Movement is the mission here!
