Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Some of my students have not yet discovered a love for reading or even a book that they can say they have completed. Freshmen year in high school is the most crucial to capture not only their love for reading, but their love for learning.
My students are struggling readers with a low interest in reading and school.
They are great kids, with fun personalities and kind hearts. They need someone who can believe in them and push them and guide them to believe in themselves. My school is a city school with a high-poverty level. I know to be successful in school you must start with becoming engaged. The books I have selected will help students become active readers that will develop a love for learning.
My Project
I envision an entire classroom library of interesting books for students to check out including A Child Called It: One Child's Courage to Survive, Every Day, The Fault in Our Stars, Looking for Alaska, The Lost Boy: A Foster Child's Search for the Love of a Family and Tears of a Tiger.
I want students to be so excited to read their next novel, that they are waiting in line to do so. I envision students reading their first novel and leading class discussions on the topics they have read about.
Donations to the book project will help my students become interested and motivated in school, which will better their future.
We appreciate any donations towards our classroom library. They will be used for the entire school year.
