This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember being scared of a high-stakes exam? That's how my AP Statistics students feel. They are now preparing very intensely for their AP Exam scheduled for May 16th. This will be the most rigorous, higher-order thinking exam that they have ever taken.

My students voluntarily enrolled in this very rigorous college-level course while juniors in high school.

This is even more impressive when you realize that none of my students' parents went to college. This course can be downright intimidating for these students - and yet they embraced the challenge. They have been working harder this year in this course than they have ever worked in any other course in their academic lives. And, they are loving it. I am inspired by their dedication and courage every single day.

My Project

We have been working extremely hard to prepare for the AP exam, learning the content and preparing for both the multiple choice and free response-type questions that will appear on the exam. As motivation on test day, I wish to present each student with a Math Whiz pin to proudly wear as they take the exam. As a reminder of the college credit that they are working towards, I'd like to also present each student with their own book about the College Admissions process - as written by other teens. The last item is one reference book about Summer Opportunities for the classroom to help my students arrange for a productive summer.

My students are incredible.

They have big dreams and are willing to work to realize them. Several times this year, intense feelings of pride have brought me to tears. I am willing to work as hard as I possibly can to help these students make the most of their lives. Furthermore, with your help, I hope to provide them with resources and motivation available to their more affluent peers.
