Sometimes students go up to the smart board to show others what they've done. Imaging the time and chaos saved if the board is remotely controlled by the iPad and students can pass it around their table to collaborate and all the while the whole class can observe because it's viewed on the board.
My students are typical middle schoolers.
They come from a large range of backgrounds and economic status. Our school is really between rural and suburban. One thing that is apparent is that, whether they are well off or from a financially struggling status, technology is prominent in all of their lives. Almost everywhere you look there are students with electronic devices of some kind. It stands to reason that a technology rich classroom will enhance their learning all the more. It is also something necessary to monitor closely in the classroom. Students need to know their teacher is as appreciative and aware of the technology as they are. And believe me, they are savvy!
My Project
Remember all those boring days of notating as a kid? Imagine the ability to be a part of the process, to interact with the notes as they are happening. My students need an iPad accessories. This is the biggest use of this resource in my classroom. Students can share their understanding of vocabulary by writing a definition in their own words...on the board yet from their seat. Additionally, I'll be able to monitor students from the back of the room while presenting. Image the cut-down in note passing, paper throwing, or sneaky texting on their phones. Quite simply, students will have more time to pay attention to learning (without nearly as many distractions).
My students will benefit most from the freedom this iPad will allow us.
As I'm teaching or presenting, I will be able to move about the classroom. I'll be able to formatively assess my students more frequently and give immediate feedback. Imagine knowing how to improve as soon as you go astray. The possibilities for learning are endless!
