My Students

Chemistry on all levels is a rigorous class for most high school students. In order to more effectively teach the concepts, lab activities are vital and in the lab, nearly every lab we complete requires the use of electronic balances for precision measuring.

We live near a military base, so there is a tremendous amount of cultural diversity in my school.

There is also a high rate of poverty among my students with more than 55% of them being on free or reduced lunch. Having materials and equipment in order to provide them with a better education increases their chances of going to college. In order to effectively and efficiently complete labs in the time frame that is available during the course of a school day, it is important to have multiple electronic balances in order to help the lab flow more smoothly. By having this extra balance, students will be able to have more time to accurately measure the chemicals that they need in order to do their experiments.

My Project

I love to see how complex chemistry concepts "click" with students when they experience them in the lab. This is not possible without equipment that constantly needs updating and maintaining to keep the program active. I am always seeking sources of funding to keep my students working in a lab that is well-equipped and college-ready. I need an additional electronic balance in order to ensure that every student has the opportunity to take their time in order to measure their samples accurately. This will help yield better results, and help the lab experience be less frustrating and more enjoyable for all students.

A donation to this project is a donation toward some of the first students to ever go to college in their families.

Many of these students have one or both parents who are deployed, and I do everything I can to make their experience at school as amazing as it can possibly be. In order to reduce the time students have to wait in order to measure chemicals and equipment while in the lab, their experience can only be more positive than it already is.
