Marching Toward A Stronger Community!

My students need marching percussion equipment so we can expand our growing band program into this arena, creating numerous additional performance opportunities.

My Students

Our band program is thriving! However, as we've grown exponentially, our resources have become even more limited than they were already! We'd love to "march toward a stronger community" by adding the excitement of a marching band and the many performance opportunities that go along with it.

Our school servers PreK through 8 in an urban district of Maryland, and faces many challenges, one of which is a lack of resources.

We've overcome many obstacles to grow our band program from just a few dozen members to over a hundred in the span of three years. Thanks to grants, fundraisers, and borrowing from other area schools, we've acquired many of the instruments needed to keep us moving forward, however, the calls for expanding into marching have risen steadily from all areas of the community.

My Project

With the addition of the two marching snare drums we're requesting, and marching bass drums (which will be provided by the director/school), we'll be able to take our band from the rehearsal room to the streets! It is our desire to create more performance opportunities for our students, such as marching in the area parades and supporting our growing sports program. Also, it is our wish to create more opportunities to teach our students about discipline and the rewards of hard work. Based on the level of effort our students have put forth toward our band program thus far, we have no doubts about our ability to create a healthy and successful marching program that will serve as a source of pride for the students and the whole community.

Besides the numerous benefits associated with music education (self confidence, discipline, team work, problem solving, creative thinking, self expression, higher test scores, etc.), we have students that are hungry for more opportunities to engage in the school and community.

Our students need programs such as this to keep them excited about their daily experience in school, keep them somewhere safe during after-school hours, and provide a creative outlet that brings them positive recognition.
