Magnetic Letters - More Than Just Holding Things On A Fridge

My students need magnetic letters for reading groups and letter activities to review while in centers.

My Students

When you hear someone talk about magnetic letters I bet your mind goes to your fridge,oh there they are, the letter O is holding up a picture from your son's last birthday and letter T is hanging onto a reminder from the PTA to bring cookies. But, they are so much more than that!

I teach the kindergarten inclusion class which means I work with students who have special needs.

These kids do so much better with manipulating words and letters when they can touch them, feel them, play with them...that is where the magnetic letters come into play. We will use them to make words in reading groups and use the centers as a review while I am working with other groups.

My Project

We all know the power of hands-on learning and this is hands-on at its best! Put letters in little people's hands and they can better remember the sound after they have felt the letter, traced the letter, moved the letter around. This builds on itself and then they are able to manipulate these letters to make words and soon we are off to reading!

Reading, you know as the old saying goes "It's FUNdamental!" Help these kindergarten friends in their journey to reading!

This could be the start of something big for each child and you could help be a part of that!
