This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our 950 Elementary students in 55 homerooms are producing incredible projects, art work, etc, but it's a challenge sharing with the entire campus in a timely way. We will use digital cameras to record activities and broadcast them via closed-circuit TV or have them on display in the Media Center.

Our students attend one of the largest high poverty elementary schools in the eighth largest district in the US.

Our resources, esp. technology, are limited and not always the most up to date. A large percentage of students have no access to computers. They are hungry for experiences using different cameras to explore the campus, record daily events, and broadcast them to the entire school via closed circuit TV, or media displays. The pride and sense of community that this equipment will help generate will have a great impact on their self-esteem and positive character development.

My Project

I supervise a group of students who work on a daily morning TV show which is broadcast on our closed circuit system to all classrooms. We include picture slideshows using pictures submitted by teachers and taken by myself. My request for the digital cameras is so that these students, the "crew" may act as "roving reporters" to record the many activities and programs on our large school campus. By being able to cover and record such events with the digital photography, we can build community and school pride as students see what their classmates are doing, performing, and creating.

Our students and teachers take great pride in their work in our school, yet it often goes unnoticed.

This equipment will enable them to share with others, showcase their best efforts, and display what makes them special and unique among their peers and the community.
