Learning & Interacting With Big Books

My students need the "Big Book Activity Kit" and activity kit storage rack.

My Students

My students face many daily challenges. Some of them include the inability to speak, difficulty focusing and attending to school work/activities, and low cognition. All of my students receive speech and language therapy due to expressive and receptive language delays.

I teach early childhood special education students ranging in age from 2 1/2 to 5 years old.

I have two groups of students. I have eight children in my morning class and 12 children in my afternoon class. I have children in my class that are speech impaired, cognitively impaired, autistic, Down syndrome, and emotional impairments. Our students receive speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and adapted physical education on a weekly basis. The students generally stay in our program until their kindergarten year. From that point, students are placed in other special education classes that best meet their educational developmental needs.

My Project

The big book activity kit will be a great resource to use with all of my students. It will allow me to engage the students in literacy and interest them in books. I will be able to engage the students by helping them to retell the stories by use of puppets and felt board characters. The students will be able to practice sequencing the main parts of the story and retell the story by using hands-on materials. This will encourage talking, communicating, and interaction with others.

A donation for this request would be greatly appreciated and is much needed for my students with special needs.

The big book activity kit will give my students another avenue to communicate and participate during story time. The hands-on activities that go with the books will enhance learning and engage my students in the learning process.
