Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Sharing is a difficult concept for both children and adults to handle with ease and finesse. Sometimes it can be a good lesson when one has to share materials and other times it works best if everyone has their own supplies.

My students are a great group of four-year-old kindergarteners.

They are eager to learn and they come to school everyday filled with the anticipation of what the day may hold. They are learning the ins and outs of life at school. They are also learning how to be part of a larger social group. They make mistakes, forget to take turns, and sometimes do impulsive things that hurt other children's feelings. They also are very caring towards each other, share most of the time, and interact well within our little community.

My Project

I am requesting 2 books on bullying which will help me teach the children how to start a conversation about bullying, how to ask for help, and how to help others who may be being bullied. I am requesting 6 sets of science kits because those tools encourage cooperative working and play. Lots of arguments occur during the group play but within each argument is an opportunity to learn how to work well within a small group. I am also requesting 6 puzzles racks for storage and something work best when everyone has his or her own supplies. I am also requesting the following math tools: 1 magnetic counting maze, 1 number sense magnetic activity board, and 1 mystery box as well as other materials that will enrich my students. My students will be able to work cooperatively and will learn the fundamentals of friendship and getting along while learning and having fun. They will learn that working together as friends is much better than bullying.

Everyday we can find incidents in the news where some type of bullying has occurred.

It can be on an individual level or something far more large scale. If we can teach our children from an early age how to fend off bullying and protect others from being bullied, we can help to better our society. Some say the pendulum can only swing so far before it swings back. Anti-bullying teaching can help to make the pendulum swing back a little bit faster.
