Kindergarten is a busy place and five and six year olds learn in many different ways.
I teach kindergarten at a low income school in Washington State.
My kids are hard workers who love to learn. They are curious about just about everything. Many of the things that we do in kindergarten are new to them and I love to watch as they discover the world by reading, writing, listening and talking.
My Project
Did you know that listening to stories is one way that students learn to read? With one adult and 24 students in my classroom, it is impossible for me to read individually with each student, each day. Enter listening centers. With these iPods and headphones my students will be able to listen to and follow along with stories that both interesting to them and appropriate to their reading level. It is an easy way for there to be "more than one adult reader" in our classroom. I know the kids will love to hear the stories as well as use the technology.
Having iPod listening centers in my classroom will allow my students to explore books independently, even if they are not yet reading.
These centers will enable my students to become better readers and independent workers.
