My students need one tabletop drying rack to help store their wonderful art creations and keep them safe.

My Students

I cringe every time I send my students art work home with them. We have nowhere to keep it safe while it dries or store it while it is waiting to go home. Consequently, sometimes my students' artwork goes home ripped, smeared, and covered with footprints.

I teach kindergarten in an approximately 250 student pre-k to second grade school in rural Maine.

Fifty percent of our population qualifies for free and reduced lunch. Like many schools, our scant budget precludes many of the essentials necessary to operate efficiently and effectively. My five and six year old students understandably are very proud of the products that they create at school. For many of them, these "things" are all that they own - they go home to homes with little or nothing on the walls, and even less in the pantry, closets, and refrigerator.

My Project

Donating to this project will help teach my young learners that there is "A place for everything and everything in its place." Much of their lives are chaotic - following routines and knowing how to take care of their creations are very important lessons for young children. A drying rack will teach my kindergarteners how to care for what they have made and that it is important to save what is valuable to them. They will be proud of themselves when they show their families what they have made in school.

You probably remember "the refrigerator art" that you created as a child.

Please consider the pride you felt when you showed your families what you made. My students have these same feelings except we do not have a place to save and store their creations. Their creations come home with little tears, footprints, or wrinkled because they have been stored on top of coatracks, in the hall, or on bookcases. A portable drying rack will alleviate these problems. Thank you for your support!
