This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
How old were you when you read your first book? My students are early, eager readers. They are always seeking out new books. The problem we face is that our classroom has a limited number of "just right" books and my kiddos are starving for new stories to jump into!
I have 17 precious 1st graders in my class.
They are busy, eager and energetic. They are ready to learn (and talk!). They are from an economically disadvantaged part of the city. and for many, school is the only language-rich environment they have. For my class, reading and story time is a large part of our day.
My Project
By adding to my classroom library, students will (finally) be able to choose books they are interested in reading, rather than just reading a book because it is all we have. Would you rather read a book someone hands you or a book you choose? I want to give my students the opportunity to use the skills they have worked so hard to learn!
By making a donation to my project, you will be helping students become fluent readers.
As we all know, reading is possibly the most important skill a student can learn. Students who struggle to read, often have difficulties in other areas. By providing books for our class, my students will want to read, and they will have the drive to improve their skills!
