The bilingual books you helped provide have become an important and joyful part of our routine.\r\n\r\nAs we read together, we intentionally name items, actions, and ideas in both English and Spanish. During story time and throughout the day, you can hear us repeating words in both languages — colors, animals, feelings, everyday objects. What has been especially beautiful to witness is that some of our English-only speakers have started using simple Spanish words naturally in conversation. They proudly count in Spanish, name colors, or repeat phrases from our stories. Language is no longer something separated — it is something shared.\r\n\r\nOne special moment came after we read Con Pollo by Jimmy Fallon. The children were completely engaged in Pollo's adventures. After reading, they eagerly drew their own versions of Pollo. As they worked, they told me details they remembered from the story — sharing something Pollo liked to do and retelling parts in their own words. Some children even used Spanish vocabulary from the book as they described their drawings. Seeing them connect comprehension, creativity, and language in that way was incredibly meaningful.\r\n\r\nFor my Spanish-speaking students, these books affirm that their home language belongs in our classroom. For my English-speaking students, they open the door to curiosity and inclusion. For all of my children, they build empathy, vocabulary, and confidence.\r\n\r\nI am deeply grateful for your support. Because of you, our classroom conversations are richer, our stories are more inclusive, and our children are growing not just as readers, but as communicators and community members.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us create a learning environment where every language is valued and every voice is heard. 📚💛","fullyFundedDate":1765984133189,"projectUrl":"project/stories-in-two-languages-building-bridg/9808266/","projectTitle":"Stories in Two Languages: Building Bridges Through Bilingual Books","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Phoebe","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5314527_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754061151481","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/phoebe-garrett"},{"teacherId":5314527,"projectId":9815434,"letterContent":"From the very first day we opened our A Little Spot books, they have become a treasured part of our classroom. My students truly LOVE this series. The characters and colors have given them a language for their emotions that feels simple, safe, and meaningful.\r\n\r\nThroughout the day, I hear them referencing the different \"feeling spots\" naturally in conversation. They'll say things like, \"Red like the anger spot\" or \"Blue like the sad spot.\" When we do deep breathing, we are often sharing that our goal is to help invite peace like the calm spot. What once might have come out as frustration or tears is now slowly becoming communication. That shift is powerful.\r\n\r\nOne moment that has deeply touched me involves a student who sometimes experiences challenging behaviors during the day. He has become especially drawn to the feeling spots. During playtime, he will independently gather the books and bring them into different centers. Often, he chooses to go into our cozy cube, bringing all of the feeling spots inside with him. He sits quietly, flipping through The ABCs of Feelings, studying the pages with focus and care. Recently, he proudly showed me that he discovered the purple Learning Spot in A Little Spot Goes to School. Watching him connect with these characters — and use them to make sense of his world — has been incredibly meaningful.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, our students now have tools to help untangle their emotions instead of being overwhelmed by them. These books are helping children name what they feel, understand that emotions change, and most importantly, communicate what they need. That is a gift that reaches far beyond a single lesson or story time.\r\n\r\nI am so deeply grateful that you chose to support this project. You have helped create a classroom where feelings are talked about openly, where children feel understood, and where even our biggest emotions have a safe place to land.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students the language of self-awareness, the comfort of recognition, and the confidence to say, \"This is how I feel.\" 💛🌈","fullyFundedDate":1765823347812,"projectUrl":"project/little-spot-of-feelings-helping-little/9815434/","projectTitle":"Little Spot of Feelings: Helping Little Hearts Understand Big Emotions","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Phoebe","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5314527_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754061151481","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/phoebe-garrett"},{"teacherId":5314527,"projectId":9808216,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for making our watercolor project possible. Your generosity has truly transformed the way my students experience art in our classroom.\r\n\r\nThe day the watercolors arrived was filled with pure excitement. My students were absolutely ecstatic to see that they each had their very own set to use. In the past, they had to share materials, so having their own paints felt incredibly special. They held them carefully, looking at their name on the top and the bottom of the palettes, looking for the paint that had their name on it. That sense of ownership made them feel like real artists.\r\n\r\nThey were also fascinated by the watercolor paper. They immediately noticed it was thicker — \"hard paper,\" as they called it — compared to the printer paper we had been using. When they began painting, they saw how the rich, vibrant colors spread beautifully across the page without tearing or wrinkling. Their faces lit up as they realized the paint looked brighter and more vivid. Many children experienced with mixing colors on their paper. They all practiced following the watercolor pattern: water, paint, paper. \r\n\r\nWe are using these materials during art center, small group explorations, and project-based learning. Recently, students used shapries to draw and then used watercolors to add color to their drawings. Afterwards they shared about their painting in English and some in Spanish. The children were proud to see their paintings hanging on the wall in their homemade mats (black posterboard). They loved looking not just for their painting but looking at and appreicating all of the paintings. \r\n\r\nHaving enough high-quality materials has changed the experience completely. Instead of worrying about running out or paper tearing, my students can focus on experimenting, expressing themselves, and building confidence. For young children, paint and paper are more than supplies — they are tools for communication, creativity, and growth. Being able to provide materials that honor that experience is truly priceless, even though I know they come with a real cost.\r\n\r\nThat is why I am so deeply grateful to you. Your generosity ensured that my students didn't just have access to art — they had access to quality materials that elevate their learning and validate their creativity.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we will continue exploring color theory, storytelling through art, and collaborative mural projects. My students are already asking when they can paint again tomorrow — and thanks to you, the answer is always yes.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in my little artists and for filling our classroom with color, pride, and possibility. 🎨💛","fullyFundedDate":1765996313047,"projectUrl":"project/little-artists-big-imaginations-painti/9808216/","projectTitle":"Little Artists, Big Imaginations: Painting Our World with Watercolors","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Phoebe","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5314527_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754061151481","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/phoebe-garrett"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_92634","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":477,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":67,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":22,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":62.5,"schoolId":92634,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Orchard Knob Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Orchard Knob Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/tennessee/hamilton-county-schools/orchard-knob-elementary-school/92634"}
