It's Fun to Hold Science in Your Hand!

My students need science materials to examine, wonder and explore! Materials include: circuits, forces, magnets, human body, insects, plants, and the frog life cycle!

This project expired on February 26, 2013.

My Students

My students need to hold science in their hands in order to explore, examine and wonder! Our school is located in a Title I area where there are few resources and children come to school with little background experience in science. It is amazing to see how excited they can be about science!

I teach math and science to 53 third grade students.

I have 27 students in the morning and 26 students in the afternoon. Some are average third graders, some are below grade level, some are gifted and talented, and some are special needs. Our school is a Title I school where 89% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. In so many ways my students are like any other third graders. They love eating lunch together and are ecstatic if they earn a chance to eat lunch with a teacher. They love kicking a ball around a field or swinging on the playground. Yet, some come to school without having dinner the night before and they wake up with bed bug bites. School may be the best thing going for them in their life. I love to engage my students in learning! The excitement, the awe, the communication about a new topic is wonderful to see! Be a part of our class and we will share our magical moments with you! Thank you!

My Project

The Science Specimens Set includes 16 different durable, easy-view specimens encased in rugged, lightweight acrylic, all with handy labels right inside for easy identification of the parts of a plant, the stages of a frog's life cycle, insects and spiders, and sea life. Each set also comes with a teacher's guide. The specimens are a hands-on approach to classifying species, comparing/contrasting features of living organisms, and examining the stages in the frog's life cycle. The Electricity Lab comes with 37 hands-on pieces with six step-by-step experiments, from designing a parallel circuit to using a switch to power light bulbs! Students learn about electricity as a form of energy, converting electrical energy and designing and building circuits. The Push-Pull Spring Scales are unique because students can see and measure push and pull forces. The Fascinating Facts about the Human Body includes a 10 1/2" anatomical torso with body parts students can remove. It has over 60 questions!

Help me, help my students discover the wonders of science!

Hands on activities help children visualize, explore and wonder about science. Be a part of making science come alive for these third graders! Thank you!
