My Students

"It's raining today!" While experiencing a drought in California, this comment came from a student when we finally got rainfall during the school day. My students get excited about observing weather and researching weather.

My students are a group 23 third graders who are curious about the world around us.

They are motivated by technology and searching for information. We are located in the greater Sacramento area. Our school is largely Hispanic and African-American.

My Project

Having a group of four iPad minis would allow my students to work in a group to research the ongoing drought in California. They can collect data, compare it to various years, and problem solve for our state's current dilemma. This will allow them to connect Science, Social Studies, and Math. Most importantly, it will engage them as citizens to try and come up with real world solutions. By having the iPads they will be able to record presentations using the video capabilities of the iPad. Not only will they learn about research, they will learn note taking, data collection, and presenting in front in front of the class.

My classroom will be improved by having more access to technology.

Currently, we have a roving Chromebook cart that is shared among our grade level. We have access to the cart for about a day and a half. This will give a set of 4 iPad minis that could stay in our class all week. The students' lives will change, because many of them do not have computers or tablets at home.
