Technology in P.E.? Digital screens and physical activity? Why not? I want my students to be physical active as much as possible and enjoy it. I want their brains to function better because they were physically active. I want to expose them to many ways to achieve that. Technology could help!
My 500+ students are eager learners who are always ready for a new challenge and opportunity.
They love working hard and being active in P.E. classes. Most thrive on the variety of activities and approaches I offer in my P.E. program. Physical activity is important in our school. Most also enjoy technology and are adept at using it. Some have home and school access to technology and some do not.
Why not use technology, like iPads, to help foster student learning in the physical activity P.E. environment? Will it help the struggling students by giving them other opportunities to develop? Will it help the thriving students find another way to challenge themselves? We want to find out together!
My Project
My students will use iPads for skill development, applying fitness concepts, and working together. Students can either individually (self-assessment) or in a small group (peer assessment) video themselves performing a skill. They can analyze different techniques, see what is working and what is not. Great for visual, kinesthetic students. Kids are also working together. Students can use iPads in fitness stations or activities. They can see exercises demonstrated and learn which muscles are being used. They can follow along to a workout video while the teacher works with other students or does assessments. iPads can be used as how-to videos. Students can see skills demonstrated in various ways (instead of just from the teacher). Students can use the iPads in teamwork activities to perform tasks, solve problems, or teach others. I also am very excited to learn more about how students can use iPads to get moving live a healthy lifestyle.
When students "graduate" from my P.E.
program, I want them to have many "tools" that will help them live a healthy lifestyle. Why can't we use technology to help with that? I hope my students learn to see technology as another way to move, not a way to be idle. Your donation will help over 500 students have the opportunity to put technology (like iPads) to good use helping them live long, healthy lives. Lets use the hardware, apps, and some vision and get them moving!
