This project allowed all 5th grade students to participate in a grade level read aloud, learn and practice new skills, enjoying reading and discussing with friends, and to check one of the Oregon Battle of Books off their reading list. The students thoroughly enjoyed each time we met as a grade level and each time the book was read in individual classes.\r\n\r\nLearning to read critically and annotate as reading is a skill that will help this group for many years to come. We focused on finding and discussing different literary elements, including personification, flashbacks, and imagery. The discussions were lively and lead to many insights from the students.\r\n\r\nEach class read most of the book in their own rooms. We met as a grade level to read together four different times. Each interaction had more insights, interactions, and thought provoking ideas. It was a wonderful experience to see all the fifth graders grow as readers and enjoy being in a book club.","fullyFundedDate":1746644848037,"projectUrl":"project/interactive-obob-read-aloud/9292004/","projectTitle":"Interactive OBOB Read Aloud","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kester","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8131050_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1705510359329","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8131050"},{"teacherId":8131050,"projectId":9244277,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity. My class loves our reading time at the end of the day, especially when they partner read.\r\n\r\nOne of the ELL students is especially excited to read the Who Would Win series, which has two different animals battle it out. The student has been sharing all kinds of interesting facts they are learning about different sharks and other sea life. The science books are also a big hit in the room, as we did a unit on scientists and inventions.\r\n\r\nAll of these wonderful series and OBOB books are helping the students make the end of the year push.
