My Students

My classroom is the most restrictive learning environment in our large school district. My particular program gives students that everyone else has given up on a chance to be successful. I want to use the i pod touch to captivate the students and reach the wide range of levels in my classroom.

My students are all special education students with severe behaviors.

The types of disabilities served in my classroom are; autism, emotionally disturbed, traumatic brain injury, non-verbal students, and others. I am seeking this chevron energy for learning grant to help my diverse population of students succeed. My classroom serves as the vocational classroom and aims to prepare the students for life outside of school. We are a self-contained program within our school district. All of my students have been kicked out of their "home" school due to the severity of their behaviors. I serve a wide range of academic levels in my classroom, from pre-k to college level. This makes teaching extremely challenging at times.

My Project

The apple i pod touches are simply an amazing tool when utilized for learning. It has applications available for all different levels of learning, from pre-k to college level. The i pod also keeps track of the students progress. The i pods would allow for each of my students to get a chance to work on individual IEP and transition goals each day at their current educational level. This is huge!! The i pods also have applications to assist my non-verbal students in giving them a voice in the classroom and a way to communicate with others.

My project is so important because it would captivate my special needs students and make them eager to learn.

It would also meet the needs of such a diverse student population in one of the most restrictive educational environments.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
