Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"ÃÂThe function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically... Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education."
-Martin Luther King, Jr.
This is my inspiration and this is why I teach!
I teach a dual language class in a Title I school in Southern California where all students receive free meals.
I have 23 very special first graders. My students are bilingual in English and Spanish! They are an amazing group and they are eager to learn! My number one goal is to help all my students achieve skills they need to be successful in school and in life! To capture their interests, I need resources to help make learning enjoyable!
My Project
Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday's was a great gateway to introducing the Civil Rights Movement to my students. Our class had discussions on the importance of equality and freedom, and how that lead to changes. I used a tablet to show Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech and we also researched the Civil Rights Movement. The tablet brought history to life and my students were so interested in the topic. They wanted to search more videos about Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks. I am requesting a tablet so that more students have the opportunity to do research on topics that we are learning about.
Let's keep the "Dream" alive by equipping our children with the tool to teach them "to think intensively and to think critically" -Martin Luther King, Jr.
"We know that education is everything to our children's future." -Barack Obama
