My Students

As a personal owner of several Apple products, I can attest to how EASY and FUN they make learning in an everyday setting. My students rarely have access to laptops but I know that iPods can be a very powerful learning device and they deserve this opportunity!

I teach 6th grade at a Title 1 School with 84% of students on the free and reduced lunch program.

We are the most diverse school in our state, with over 30 languages spoken on campus. The pressure is on the improve reading and math skills with my students, but we are using dated materials from the late 1990s when more current tools are proven to improve these skills - IF ONLY WE HAD iPODs TO ACCESS THOSE TOOLS.

My Project

Every year our access to basic materials gets reduced, let alone the opportunity to explore other learning materials such as iPods. I personally own my Apple products and have spent much time exploring different apps that increase specific skills in reading and math. I've actually improve my own basic math operations skills just by playing free apps that you can download onto an iPod, so why wouldn't I want the same for my students? I was also the Technology Instructor for our school before teaching 6th grade and I know just how important it is for students to become familiar with using different types of technology to get ready for working in the real world.

Every year I take my students on a field trip to the Apple Store, where they work with amazing instructors and current Apple products, but then we go back to school where we barely get to use laptops with keys missing that crash constantly.

By giving to this project you would be leaping our classroom into 2012 to dramatically change and improve the way my students learn.
