Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are enjoying being in junior high and the benefits of living in America. They need to have the opportunity to understand parts of history that have shaped America into what it is today. My students enjoy graphic novels, and my students' attention to historical events would be captivated by graphic novels.
My students are eighth graders, 13 or 14 years old.
67% of the students at our school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. 73% of our students are Hispanic. The students have strong connections with their family and friends. They enjoy interacting and learning each other's stories.
My classes really enjoy reading and would benefit from access to more books that captivate their interest, as well as continue to build their understanding of U.S. history.
My Project
I have requested different sets of graphic novels for my students to read so they are motivated to learn about different events in U.S. history. They need the historical perspective in a different format than the traditional textbook.
The students will work with the graphic novels in groups to study an historical events. They will then research the time period to discover the impact of the event on the world. Students will be able to rotate groups to add the historical context to their background.
Your donation to this historic graphic novel project will engage students in history in a different way.
No more boring textbooks, instead my students will have high-interest, graphic novels in their hands. The project will present the opportunity for my students to learn about historic events that have shaped our world, and understand the historical impact.
