My students need an iPad to use the many apps available to help them communicate and learn.

My Students

Help us to enhance comprehension of language and social situations, when a child has unique challenges to communicate, this will help to promote independence and allow an ease in allowing the child to share their needs. This will help with activities and transitions for students with autism.

Our intensive needs classroom is in a public school and encourages our students to be included in typical classrooms.

The love that we see from those students is truly amazing, to hear from parents how much their student enjoys "buddies". Is so heart warming. Here is Johnny, he has a hard time expressing what is upsetting him, it may be he has a head ache or his socks are twisted but sadly he can not grasp the words he needs to get assistance with making things right for him because Johnny is mostly non-verbal. He has access to an iPad at home and uses it to let his caregivers know how he is feeling. Now Johnny has gone into a meltdown that can last hours, all that time that he could have been learning, spent trying to figure out what is bothering him. With the communication application he would have access to when our iPad arrives at school, this problem could have been addressed and then he could move on to more learning fun!

My Project

With this iPad our students will have access to great learning tools such as social story maker, as well as many mathematical and phonemic awareness programs, it will make learning seem like fun. Many children in our classroom currently and in the future already posses many of the foundation skills that are needed to operate technology, such as the iPad and other devices so adding this iPad to our classroom would foster those skills and improve on these abilities.
