HELP Students Take Flight on Literature Adventures!!

My 45 students need class sets of "Savvy" and "Scumble" to kick off the school year with AMAZING literature circles in our fifth grade language arts class!!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Connecting with good literature is a process that not only is important, but it is essential to develop in an organic manner as possible. What better way than experiencing connection through Ingrid Law's gorgeously written and enthralling coming of age stories?

My Texas students are part of a Title 1 District (low SES) and the community they come from lacks its own public library!!

Many of them are truly underprivileged receiving many wonderful things from business partners to the school such as backpacks (filled with school supplies), shoes, and glasses. We are truly blessed to get this type of help from such giving people who host drives for this kind of assistance to be available for our students. The majority of our school's students qualify for either free or reduced cost for meals due to their family's economic status.

My Project

In having access to the class set of Savvy and Scumble each child will be able to go home with a wonderful book that is truly entertaining, as well as wonderfully written. In our literature circles we are able to assign responsibilities to each member of the group. For some students it is the beginning of their understanding of what becoming accountable for something feels like! Forming active literature circles has been an agonizing dream. The resources for a class set for contemporary books are not available due to budget cuts by the state which in turn affect the district, finally trickling to each school. My students deserve the opportunity to embrace literature as I did when I was their age and I so wish this for them!! I particularly cannot wait for them to read about Mibs Beaumont and the rest of her family, more importantly, for them to discover their own Savvy!!

In advance I thank you for considering making a donation towards my classroom project.

I am really blessed to be a teacher in my community. While I often pickup the costs for many things for my classroom, I am unable to on this scale. As the saying goes, "it takes a village to rear a child." I ask that you be part of our "village" and truly impact the minds of children. I assure you I will be a grateful steward of your donation. My students will reap the rewards of the seeds you sow!!
