Hi, I teach in a Special Act public school. We are the only school in the state of New York serving children of a hospital. I have been teaching special education science for three years in an inclusive classroom. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and the majority come from poor communities in the city. In addition, all of our students receive free or reduced lunch. What makes our population of students special, is the fact that all of them are receiving medical care for various diseases including muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, autism, and cancer.

Every morning I see excited teachers entering the school and excited students eager to learn the lessons. I also see that many classrooms do not have essential materials to teach hands-on lessons. This is the situation in our science classroom. I am teaching forensic science for grades 9-12. This week the students expressed their interest in analyzing a mock crime scene. Although the idea of a mock crime scene could lead to lessons in studying fingerprints, hair analysis, DNA analysis, trace evidence and eyewitness evidence, we do not have the materials for the students to analyze these evidence.

I believe that the students would benefit from analyzing a crime scene, don't you agree? I believe all students regardless of their disability or social status, deserve a good education. The resources my students need are three sets of forensics knowledge cards, 5 CSI-800 kits, one ward forensic detective lab, one copy of Faces 4.0 education version software, and one copy of Smartdraw software for PC.

You will make a possible for my students to analyze a mock crime scene. With your contribution, my students will be able to learn scientific concepts of biology, chemistry, and physics, process skills, and an unforgettable hands-on learning experience.
