My Students

Our school library is undergoing a transitional period, and has been closed for 5 months now. There are plans to re-open it, but students are anxiously waiting to read additional texts beyond the limited, and somewhat worn-out library in our immediate classroom.

Ambitious, intelligent, hard working, creative; these are just some of the character traits of the students in this southern California public school.

They possess a strong desire to learn and be challenged. Each day we work on developing various reading skills and these pupils of mine love to read! However, I have students of many different reading levels all in one classroom. As an educator, I am constantly balancing reviewing and remediating for some students, exciting and promoting basic literacy foundations for middle range students, and challenging the advanced readers in my classroom.

My Project

These Nook Tablets with their 16GB of memory to store digital books, will not only offer me a way to facilitate differentiated reading instruction in small groups, the Nook Tablets will enable my students to experience literature in a whole new way. They will enjoy digital books, magazines and even newspapers in color, plus be able to gather information for research projects from the Internet all in the palm of their hands. The NOOK tablet features a 7" color touch-screen display with VividView technology, and a 1.0GHz dual-core processor delivers lightning-fast Web browsing, thus also allowing students to log onto educational websites and further reinforce and supplement their educational skills.

Technology truly captivates and motivates young learners.

Through the use of the Nook Tablet technology, these eager minds will enjoy literature even more thoroughly through a medium current with the twenty-first century. My students will be afforded the ability to tackle educational games and puzzles in all disciplines via the world wide web.
