Energy! We all need it and use it on a daily basis. Who will be the ones making the decisions to help solve the growing energy crisis? Our students, that's who! We need supplies and equipment to successfully enable our students to study positive approaches to this problem.
Our Middle School in NC currently enrolls 1,100 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students from a rural NC community, with 58% of our students on free and reduced lunch.
Our school goals include setting high academic standards for all students, ensuring academic growth for all students, as well as ensuring that each student acquires the skills needed to compete in the 21st century.
Many students coming to a 7th grade science classroom lack the necessary scientific inquiry skills needed to be successful at this level of study. There is always a struggle of presenting information and the students not being able to investigate the topic fully. The resources provided by this grant would give our students the opportunity to successfully investigate sources of alternative energy.
My Project
I am requesting Solar Power exploration kits for my students. These kits are designed to promote exploration and learning of the many uses of solar energy to help solve many of our energy problems. While discovering the many aspects of solar power, the students will also learn about physics and air quality. The kits are teacher and student friendly, and allow the students to explore the various ways in which the power of the sun can be harnessed to do different types of work.
There are many more lessons and opportunities for the students to learn, however we do not have the funds to provide this invaluable resource to our students.
For example, students would learn the basic tenets of physics, environmental impact of humans, technological design, alternative energy sources, and scientific inquiry. Would you consider helping our students become more successful in their studies?
