Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Soap...check! Facial tissues...check! Disinfecting wipes...check!
Healthy students is a productive classroom.
Unfortunately, my school is a title I and LAUSD with minimum funding and can't afford any more supplies to keep our classroom clean.
Most of our students come from economically disadvantaged families and parents can't cover the cost. Usually, African American students make up about 90% of my second grade class and Latino children about 10%. We are teaching respect, tolerance, and teamwork. Our students are aware of the issues awaiting them and they are getting ready!
My Project
My classroom is packed tight with students who are in there every day for eight hours a day. Even though we've talked a great deal about keeping germs away and the prevention of germ-spreading, we don't have the materials to put these into practice as often as we like. The sanitizing hand soaps and hand sanitizers will keep children hands clean. Facial tissues help with the runny noses and sniffles throughout the school year.
Our school has a cleaning crew, but they only vacuum once a week. The disinfecting wipes keeps our desks clean. These wipes will help to keep germs off the surfaces and my students. The better we keep the germs and dirt away, the more students will be in school. This will especially help when my students have to deal with colds in the fall and winter. Due to lack of closet space I am also asking for a portable storage unit to keep our materials dust free and out of the way.
This project will keep my students healthy and in school.
With so many people in close proximity, it is very difficult to keep from passing germs back and forth. We desperately need these items to help kill the germs that lurk in our classroom.
It's pretty hard to focus on learning when you have a runny nose or a sore throat. That's why my students need to stay healthy so they can stay in school instead of missing out while they're sick at home.
