Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you eat enough fruits and vegetables everyday? They taste great when they are blended into a smoothie drink. We need to learn how to fix tasty, healthy snacks that give energy, and build healthy minds and bodies.
My student's ages range from 5 to 9 years old.
My classroom is a special program for students with moderate cognitive disabilities. Some people call my students trainable, I call them lovable. Most of my students ride a bus to get to our public, K-8 school in a large urban city. They are eager to learn and love to learn on new technology. They enjoy any activity that is hands-on learning. It is challenging teaching them basic concepts without alternative ways of reaching their specific learning style. Our school has adopted a healthy eating policy and no longer allows junk food. We are exploring ways of making healthy food taste delicious and incorporating more physical activity into our day.
My Project
My classroom will have a healthy environment kitchen center that models and teaches positive methods of understanding food and it's effects on a body. Using the juicer and the Ninja food system, we will explore making yummy smoothies and juices that give us super energy. Students will be able to use the sorting sets to play and learn color concepts as well as food groups. They will use the stethoscopes to check their pulses after physical activity and hear their heartbeats. The safe-t-softballs will provide safe, indoor activity breaks to burn their healthy energy. The large toothbrush will help demonstrate the importance of brushing and teach the right way to take care of your teeth. My students will be ready to learn as we take steps to feel good about being healthy.
Your donation to this project will make a difference in my classroom.
My classroom, thanks to donors like you, is a happy place to be with many resources from projects in previous years. Please continue supporting us, and watch us grow using up to date materials and technology.
