This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember learning your numbers all the way to 100 for the first time? Do you remember when you understood the concept of money and learned how to use it? All the basic foundations for math are built in first grade and will impact the students for years to come.

I teach at a charter school whose mission is to change the odds for students and their families living in the inner-city by giving them an education that will enable them to one day make the choice to go to college.

These students don't have much but are so grateful for all they do have and they LOVE learning!

My Project

The resources in this project will give students an opportunity to have hands-on experience with two of the hardest first grade concepts: money and place value. The individual money pouches and place value blocks will allow each student to explore and manipulate to learn!

I really believe that these manipulative sets will really help the students engage in their learning on these two mathematical concepts that they will need for the rest of their lives.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
